Eid al-Adha, the festival of sacrifice, falls on the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah, during the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. It remembers Ibrahim's (Abraham's) willingness to sacrifice his son at God's command. Families sacrifice a sheep, goat or other animal and share the meat with relatives, neighbors and the poor.
